Melvin S. Stauffer was called to Heaven to continue his serve to Jesus, his master, at age 87 on Wednesday, July 26th 2017 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  He was born in 1929 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.  He met his wife Christine E. Fausnacht in 1947 while they were both attending Hershey High School. 

Upon completion of an apprenticeship, Mel joined the navy and became secretary to the Flag Staff at Norfolk Naval Station.  After serving his country Mel began a career as a real estate broker and later transitioned into the world-wide trade business.  He was very active in the Lions Club since 1962, serving in many leadership roles, winning awards, and helping innumerable people. He has been active in several churches over his life time, most recently at the Community United Methodist Church in Kempsville.  For the past 35 years, almost every day Mel and Chris volunteered for the local food bank.  On any given weekend, they could be found cooking for various church, Lions, and other charity events, whether 20 or 2,000 people.  

The oldest of eight children Melvin is survived by his wife of 66 years, Christine, sons Melvin and Larry and daughter Cindy as well as seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  

The family invite friends to a celebration of his life on Sunday, July 30th at 5:00 pm at the Community United Methodist Church, 1072 Old Kempsville Road in Virginia Beach with a reception to follow in the church social hall.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Community United Methodist Church Fellowship Class or Woodstock Lions Club.
