Bernice Gambrill

Bernice B. Gambrill, 90, of Norfolk, passed away August 20, 2018. Bernice was the daughter of the late Mary Carrie White and the late Robert Bradshaw. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and Virginia State College. After college, Bernice spent many years living and doing social work in New York before returning home to Norfolk in 1968. She was employed by the Virginia Employment Commission and as a secretary for the Norfolk Fire Department before retiring. Bernice was a former member and church clerk of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church in Campostella and a member and former church clerk of Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church. Bernice was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

Bernice was predeceased by her husband, Jerome “Jerry” Gambrill. Left to cherish her memory are her stepchildren, Renee McClary, Jerome III., and Michael Gambrill (Anita); five granddaughters, Venesha Gambrill-Johnson (Alvin) and Patrice Nunley (Wesley) , Khidja Gambrill, Pasty Gambrill and Tasia Jay Dore.; seven great-grandchildren, her goddaughter, Rhonda Varner; and a host of cousins and friends.
