Chaston Roston, III Obituary

Chaston Coleman Roston III was called home to be with the Lord on December 1, 2019 at Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA. Chaston, son of the late Chaston Roston Jr. and Dorothy Thompson, was born on May 11, 1957.                                                                                                                                               

Chaston served his country as a Hospital Corpsman, attached to the 2nd Marine Division in the United States Navy and as a Healthcare Specialist in the United States Army Reserve. He earned a Certificate of Nursing from the Richmond Technical Center. Chaston served in the public sector as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Richmond Memorial Hospital and with Maxim Healthcare Services. His interests spilled over to writing several science fiction novels that he would pour over hours revising until they were just right. He also had a love for music and played the keyboard along with the bongos. After he was diagnosed with Stage IV kidney disease, Chaston continued to serve in his local community. He was an active choir member and percussionist at Faith Lutheran Church in Suffolk, VA. Chaston enjoyed cooking (especially grilling) for family and friends while talking about how great his Washington Redskins were going to be that year. He was a complex man who will be missed.

He was predeceased by his father Chaston C. Roston Jr and his first wife, Evelyn Roston. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Dorian Roston and Wesley Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Sheila Roston. His mother, Dorothy Thompson, stepfather, William Thompson and stepmother, Jacqueline Roston. His uncle, Rev. Clyde Roston (Jean). He was blessed with his children, Stefan (Selena), Kellee, Justin, Ryan, Michael (Tayloria), Cameron (Alejandria) and Chyna. His grandchildren, Dereke, Constance, Alex, Sanai, Nathan, Ji’Niyah, Monrell, Mi’chaela, Jakell, Montana, MiShelle and McKenzie. His great grandchildren, Imani and Connor. He is also survived by his brothers, William (Lottie), Donald (Greta), Garrett, Jacquar and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
