Dorothy Moore Obituary

Dorothy M. Moore was born October 1924 to the late Charlie and Henrietta McNeil in Edgecombe County, North Carolina.

She joined Batts Chapel at a young age and was very active in the church.

Dorothy attended school and later married the late William Jesse Pettiway.  Out of that union they had only one child, Helen Pettiway Frederick.

Dorothy moved to Portsmouth, Virginia and then later moved to Baltimore, MD to be near family there.  She held various jobs in MD before moving to New York for better opportunities.  She retired from Lenox Hill Hospital.

She joined Zion Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY and was an active member in different ministries of the church.

Dorothy loved to travel and was fortunate to travel to Israel, Greece, Italy, Africa, as well as several Carribbean Islands and various parts of the United States.

Dorothy belonged to several different organizations and received numerous certificates of recognition for her service. She also loved to cook and entertain for family and friends. Everyone felt comfortable in talking and sharing stories with her.

After the passing of her parents, Dorothy became the matriarch of the McNeil Family.  Preceding her death she lost her only grandson, Michael Frederick.  But she leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Helen Pettiway Frederick of Chesapeake, VA, her sisters, Ethel Barr of Florence, SC and Lois McNeil of New York, NY, her brother-in-law Alfonso Reid of Oakdale, NY, her cousin Elaine Jones of Baltimore, MD and host of nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and grand nephews.
