Dorothy Wingate Obituary

On March 5, 2018, the Lord open the gates of Heaven and gently called Dorothy Kello Wingate. “Dot,” as she was affectionately known, was born on July 11, 1933 to Emmitt and Elizabeth Kello in Southampton County, VA. Dorothy was educated in Southampton Public Schools and graduated from Hayden High School in Franklin, Va.

In 1956, Dorothy met and married Hubert Ray Wingate in which they were partners in love until his death in 1986. Dorothy worked in the health care profession a better part of her life and was co-owner of Wingate Home Improvement company until his death.

All who knew Dorothy knew her to be a compassionate, loving person who loved to put puzzles together and collect salt and pepper shakers. She always had inspiring words of wisdom and encouragement to family and friends that came to visit. Her final years were spent at Sentara Nursing home where she was cared for by staff and family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was predeceased by one sibling, Daniel Kello.  Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted son Johnnie Kello (Michelle), grandchildren Dennis Kello (Kim) of Norfolk, Va;  Nicole Jefferson (Mario) of  Chesapeake , Va. and Michael Kello (Nysheena) of Va. Beach, Va.  Great- grandchildren  Greg Adams, Kaila Adams, Dennis Kennedy, Jaylen Hunter, Destiny Kello, Tyler Kello, Detra Kello, Breyontae  Jefferson, Nasir Kello and Aaliyah Kello,  two sisters, Margaret Worrell of Courtland Va, Shirley Shannon (Herbert) of Laurel Md., one brother Emmitt Kello (Charlena) of Norfolk, Va.  Two special friends Alethia Parson Speller and Barbara Sinclair and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
