Elder James Curney Sr. Obituary

Elder James Curney Sr. was born on March 7,1954 to the late Edith Curney and Walter Bailey. James spent most of childhood in Baltimore Maryland where he began his singing career at the age of 11 singing in the youth choir. At the age of 17 he moved to Virginia and auditioned for the Del-tone's,which became the #1 group in Virginia for several years. In 1973 the Del-tone's recorded their first single "Stay with  Me". James musical abilities allowed him to be the opening act for many groups such as the Stylistics and Kool and the Gang.

He recieved his formative education through Norfolk Public Schools and Baltimore Maryland school system. James attended North Carolina College of Theology where he received an Bachelor Degree in Biblical science
 
James became a member of The Way of the Cross after meeting an elderly saint in an art store who told James that his anointing comes from his ministering through song. In 1980 under the leadership of the Late Bishop Lewis E Hines James became an ordained minister.

James recieved many awards that spoke on his outstanding job performances. He was a man of many hats. James was an memorial sales counselor/ family service assistant sales manager for Stonemor-Roosevelt Memorial Park, he was also a Customer service Manager for Food Lion, he worked as an Insurance sales representative  for United Insurance of America and Home Beneficial Life Insurance. James was also a store manager for KFC and Burger king.

James character spoke volume to those who met him. He was a leader, a father, a husband,  a friend,  an mentor and he was an God fearing man. He enjoyed cooking, singing, spending time with his family and he loved him some Bernadine. James was a people person who enjoyed being around people. He didn't  mind giving and he was the glue that held his family together. James taught his family to depend on God, to trust his word no matter how the situation may look you wait on God .

In his children's and grandchildren eyes he's  a  hero there was nothing he couldn't do, he was a role model,  dependable, motivational, he was a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on.

He was predeceased by two brothers Kenneth Armstrong Sr. and Demetruis Gray. He leaves to cherish his memory,  his wife of 43 years Bernadine Curney, 4 children Shawn Peace , Jacqueline Curney Thronton, Faith Curney, James Curney jr, and Jermaine Curney. 3 grandchildren Jamah Curney,Stephen Curney, and Damari Curney and Zion Curney. 1 great grandchild Jayden Curney. (Godchildren) Shelia Jones, Keshia Whitley and Imani Lee  and two very close friends Mr.Lee and Mr. Alex (Brothers)Walter Bailey jr, Rt. Col.Allen Bailey, Reggie Bailey,  Eugene Curney, Hilton Curney, Ronnie Bailey, Lynn Bailey, Author Thrope. (Sisters) Doris Barringer, Carolyn Curney, Diane Williams,  Tina Bailey, Ella Bailey, Marie Jackson and Barbara Jones. A host of brother in laws, sister in laws, grandchildren and great children,  nieces,nephews, aunts,uncles, cousins,adopted children and friends.

The family of James Curney would like to Thank  Keith Matthews, Roosevelt Memorial and The Way for their services. We would also like to thank everyone for their love, support, prayers flowers, cards and every act of kindness during this time of bereavement.  Thank you and may God Bless each and every one of you.
