Lucille Walton Obituary

Mrs. Lucille (Dunn) Walton, age 102, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 29, 2018. Lucille was the loving wife of the late Clarence Walton.

Lucille was born in 1915 in Knightdale, North Carolina to a hardworking, farming family. She and her 8 brothers and sisters worked the land with their parents - growing tobacco and other crops. She met Clarence Walton and they were married in June 1934. They had 7 children before relocating to Boston, MA in 1954. Lucille used her gardening skills learned on the farm to grow plants and flowers in the home that she took pride in keeping spotless. She began working as a presser in a cleaners and then took on work as a house cleaner in the suburbs of Boston.  The family joined Peoples Baptist Church and became devoted members. Soon after the passing of her husband Clarence in 1997,  Lucille returned home to Knightdale. She joined Malaby's Cross Road Baptist Church where she was a loyal and faithful member until health issues a few years ago precipitated a move to Virginia Beach to live with her daughter Linda.

Lucille loved to crochet and a few were blessed to have learned the skill from her. Grandchildren, great grands, and other loved ones have cherished blankets that are "Lucille originals."  Lucille was renowned for her cooking and baking skills. Family members would often request coconut custards, sweet potato pies and coconut cakes. The taste of those pies and cakes made the time spent at her home worth all the cleaning you had to do to keep Lucille's house up to her standards. You would always find grandchildren or great grandchildren at her home whether for a night, a weekend, or the whole summer. Lucille will be always remembered as a loving mother and grandmother whose focus was taking care of her home and family.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband Clarence; son Clarence Jr; daughters Rosa Mae, Dorothy Marie, Edith, and Brenda; brothers, William Edward, and Eugene; and sisters, Ula Mae, Pauline, and Mildred. Lucille is survived by her son, William Walton; daughter, Linda Galvez; brother, Jean Louis; sister, Minnie, 23 grandchildren, over 60 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and close friends.
