Margaret Morings Obituary

Margaret Lee Watford Morings, born February 17, 1931 to the late Reverend George Theodore and Mary Eleveese Watford. Margaret inherited her namesake from her maternal grandmother as they shared the same birthday. Margaret grew up in Merry Hill, North Carolina where she attended Bertie County Schools. She worshipped faithfully at St. Mark’s Baptist Church of Colerain, North Carolina, where she sang with the, locally, infamous Moore Family. As a young adult, she gave birth to her first born son, the late Thomas Lewis Watford. Following her school years, she began domestic work with the local Harrell family. Her hard work and diligent experience led her to the opportunity to work at the Nag’s Head, North Carolina shoreline resorts in the mid-1950’s. Margaret later moved to Norfolk, Virginia where she continued her skills in domestic labor. She met and married Wilson Benthall and from that union she bore her second son, Wilson Eugene Benthall. From her second union with Henry Morings came the birth of their beautiful daughter, Patricia Morings.

Margaret was not only a loving and caring mother and grandmother, she was there for the needs of family and friends. Her multi-layered chocolate cake will long be remembered and missed. Retirement age did not hold her back from her cooking skills and creative efforts. She was more than happy to bake a cake for anyone who asked of her. She spent useful time making decorative fans, Christmas ornaments and centerpieces. With a loving, thoughtful heart, she never forgot to send cards for every holiday and birthdays to those closest to her.

She leaves to mourn: Her son, Wilson Eugene Benthall, Rincon, Ga; daughter, Patricia Morings, Norfolk, Va; Sisters, Ollie Morris of West Haven, CT, Shirley Paramore of Bridgeport, CT and Teresa Chapman (William) of Stockbridge, GA; One brother, Melvin Watford (Virginia) of Norfolk, Va; Four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

She is predeceased by her parents, Reverend George T and Mary E Watford; her son, Thomas Lewis Watford; sisters: Mary W Johnson, Grace W Greer and Queen W Miller; brothers: George W Watford, William T Watford and Walter E Watford.
