OBITUARY
Ruth Magadlene Thompson Barrett Black entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Sentara Hospice House in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Ruth was born in Norfolk, Virginia to the late James and Mary Thompson on July 24, 1951. She received her education in the Norfolk Public School System and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. Ruth was employed at Sentara Leigh Hospital for over 25 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Thompson and a sister, Janette Thompson.
Ruth accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Second Calvary Baptist Church. While at Second Calvary, she served in the choir, as a Sunday School Teacher and as an usher. She was a devout Christian and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and co-worker. Ruth was kindhearted, caring and sincere.
Ruth leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Richard Black of Norfolk, Virginia; one daughter, Karen Barrett Brinkley also of Norfolk, Virginia; two grandchildren, Trinity Brinkley and Gabrielle Brinkley; three brothers, Reverend Weldon E. Thompson and Reginald Thompson of Norfolk, Virginia and Arthur Thompson of Stockbridge, Georgia; one sister, Marietta D. Thompson of Norfolk, Virginia; one aunt, Golethia Smith of Portsmouth, Virginia; one uncle, Howard Burton of Brooklyn, New York; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
