Shakiah Lolette Matthews was the proud mother of Jakhi and Josiah Needam. She was born on October 6, 1987, just one minute after her twin sister, making her the baby girl of the family. Sadly, she passed away on October 28, 2018.
With the encouragement of her great grandmother Nancy, Shakiah was baptized at an early age by Rev. Donald White Sr., and became a member of Macedonia AME Church in Accomac, Virginia. She was a 2006 graduate of Nandua High School and a graduate of Sentara College of Health Sciences Nursing Care Partner Program. Shakiah was employed by Perdue Farms in Accomac.
She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents Helen and Donald James, Sr.; paternal grandfather, Howard N. Matthews Sr.; paternal great grandparents David and Nancy Matthews; and paternal great grandparents George and Evelyn Anderson.
Shakiah is survived by her beloved sons, Jakhi and Josiah Needam. She also leaves behind to cherish her memories: mother, Toni James; father, Howard N. Matthews Jr.; dear sister, Shameka Matthews; her twin, Shakeva Matthews; brothers, Demetreis Dorsett, Marquis (Jannah) Coston, Tyrese Matthews, and Nathaniel Matthews; nephews, Ahmad Coston and Chance Strand; nieces, Aasmaa and Aisha Coston. She is also survived by her paternal grandmother, Alphine Matthews, 6 aunts Joni Clifford (Graeme), Andrea Topping (Anthony), Dena Smith (Hillery), Nicole Hickman (Travis), Princess Bragg, and Ciarra Butler; 5 uncles, Ronald James (Crystal), Kerwin Northan, Kelvin Northan (Cathy) Princeton Bragg, Donald James, Jr. (Mikaela); 6 great aunts, 1 great uncle, 1 great-great aunt, Catherine Veney; step mother, Tonya Matthews, and a host of cousins and friends.
Shakiah will be remembered for her infectious smile. She truly enjoyed life, spending time with her family and friends, as well as being the life of the party. Shakiah you are deeply missed and will always be remembered.
