Sherese “Rese” LaToia Sample-Brooks

                       1981-2018              

Sherese “Rese” Sample-Brooks, 36, passed away unexpectantly on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. She was born on December 8, 1981 to Sheri Sample and Carlton Batty. 

Sherese Sample married her husband Marcus Brooks in 2016.  She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, granddaughter and friend.  She always offered positive advice to all who would listen.  Her journey of uplifting and empowering women to succeed was one that fulfilled her heart daily. She was a social worker, mentor and founder of “A Journey of Butterflies.”  She was an intern at the YWCA, a part of the NSU Alumni 2017 (Cum Laude Graduate).  She was an advocate at Grace and Truth Ministries/Angels Place.  She was a member with the National Association of Social Workers. Sherese served in the United States Army until she was honorably discharged. She accepted Christ at a young age and later became a member at Freedom Fellowship Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Sherese was predeceased in death by her grandfather, Jerry Sample; uncle, Eric Sample; a cousin, Aynsley Worlds; great grandmothers, Elizabeth Giddens and Onedia Sample; great grandfather, Dory Sample, Sr.; grandmother, Barbara Batty; aunts, Sylvelin Batty and Pauline Harmon. 

Sherese leaves to celebrate her life:  her husband, Marcus Brooks; her two children, NeVeah and Malachi; two step daughters, Mya and Mariyah; her mother, Sheri Sample Carpenter (Michael); father, Carleton Batty, Sr., a grandmother, Nellie Sample; three sisters, Ladonne, Schronda and Sharita; three brothers, Carleton Jr., (Tylisa), Russell II and Angelo; three uncles, Gary Sample (Joy), Norman Batty and Barry Snead;  two aunts Keva Bagwell (Michael) and Roxanna Phillips (Vrein); several mother and father figures,  nieces, nephews and a host of cousins, family and friends.

A time of gathering will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at Keith Matthews Funeral Home, 5665 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23502.
