Thomas Dukes, also lovingly known as “Uncle Duke”, Pluke Duke, and “Tommy”, departed this world on September 27th following a series of strokes. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia on August 1, 1948, the youngest child of Annie Mae and Herbert Dukes. In 1979, he married the love of his life, Hattie Mae Dukes and in the late 1990’s they moved to Harrisonburg, Virginia, where he resided during his passing.
Thomas and his wife Hattie invited Jesus into their lives as their Lord and Savior, confirming that with a public baptism, in 2003.
Thomas was an amazing, loving and caring man who loved family. His personality attracted many people to him. He enjoyed music, especially jazz. During his spare time he volunteered at the local homeless shelter and OCP Community Center. Thomas loved to fellowship with his church family at Faith Community Church, in Harrisonburg, where he attended since 2002.
Thomas was preceded in death by both parents, as well as his wife, Hattie Mae and brother, Herbert Dukes. He leaves behind to mourn his passing, three siblings, brother, George Foy (Irene), sister, Ethel Mae Riddick (Johnny) and sister, Doris Dukes Kello (Sam); eleven nieces and nephews and a whole slew of great-nieces, great-nephews, family and friends.
Through trials and tribulations if you keep your heart and mind on God he will see you through! At the end God saw Thomas through.
Thomas wrote a passage and it stated, “Everyday my eyes are wide open looking toward my heavenly home!” Now he can rest in his heavenly!
Uncle Duke will be truly missed and forever be in our hearts!
