On Monday, January 14, 2019, Wardell Mills, Sr. , known to most people as “Big Red,” transitioned peacefully at 3:15am at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia.
Mr. Mills was a native of Nansemond County, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aurlene Greene and Albert Lee Mills, Sr. and his son, Ivan Mills.
Having attended Robertson Elementary School as a young child, he later became a Construction Worker and worked in that field for over 35 years.
Mr. Mills is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 48 years, Emma Clark Mills; his step-mother Lee Ellen Mills; three daughters Valarie Warren (Raymond), Diane Horton (Timothy) and Ciscley Mills; three sons Joseph Blakes, Wardell Mills, Jr. (Relia) and Kevin Mills; seven grandchildren, Ivan Mills, Natasha Boyd, Patrick Mills, Rashee Parson, Devin Mills, Emily Mills, and Alvonte Lawton; eight sisters Teresa Goodman (George) Sandra Mills, Gloria Jennings, Sheryl Watford, Janice Hunter, Angela Watson (Thomas) and Tracy Goodman (William); five brothers Albert Mills, Jr. (Janette), Wayne Mills (Debra), Barry Mills (Karen), Dwight Mills (Priscilla) and Arthur Morrison and a host of other cousins and friends.
