Alicia Chavis-Hereford Obituary

Celebrating the Lives of Alicia Ann Hereford and Morgan Bonita Bazemore

Alicia Ann Hereford was born on December 25, 1968 in Norfolk, VA, to the late James Chavis, Jr., and Gilda Ray Chavis. She was the mother of Morgan Bonita Bazemore. Both Alicia and Morgan transitioned on March 11, 2021.

Left to cherish their memories are Alicia’s husband, Harvey L. Hereford, and Morgan’s father, Marvin Eli Bazemore, Sr., Alicia’s son and fraternal twin to Morgan, Marvin Eli Bazemore, Jr. (Shatima). Loved by both is Alicia’s grandson and Morgan’s nephew, Mitch Carter Bazemore. Alicia was the youngest of three (s) siblings. These aunts and uncles to Morgan are Karen B. Chalmers (J.B.-deceased), Kevin E. Chavis (Jacqueline) and Uncles James Richardson, Jr., Glenn Richardson, and Shelton L. Richardson (Susan).  Her two sisters-in-law, Alicesa E. Foster and Michelle D. Hereford will always remember her as well as her dear and dedicated friend of close to 30 years, Dehon Mack.

Alicia was a 1987 graduate of Maury High School in Norfolk, VA. She furthered her education and received a Bachelor’s in arts in Sociology, from Hampton University, the class of 1991- Ogre Phi Ogre VII.  Immediately after graduating, Alicia attended Old Dominion University where she earned a Masters degree in Sociology.

She spent her entire career as a social worker with the City of Portsmouth Department of Social Services and most recently as a Child Protective Services Hotline Specialist with the Virginia Department of Social Services.

In her youth, as a member of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, Lambert’s Point, she was a soloist in the Junior Choir, played violin and served as the Secretary for the Sunday School Union.

She and Morgan shared a love of shopping, being with family and friends, and creating wonderful memories with each other. Morgan had a keen eye for fashion and all things beautiful, particularly her shoes and hair pieces.

Morgan leaves to cherish her memory, her paternal grandparents, the late James Bazemore, Sr., and  Alma Bazemore, a stepsister, Myonda Collins (Darryl), brother, Cameron Bazemore, aunts, Monica Bazemore and Karen Clark and uncles Michael Bazemore, and James Bazemore, Jr. She will also be missed by her step-grandmother Lue E. Foster, step siblings Marcus Lebron Hereford, Derrick DeSean Hereford, and her little best friend “Lay.”

Like her mom, Morgan attended Maury High School and enjoyed competitive cheering. She graduated in 2016.

Morgan loved to work and put her heart and soul in all she did. She successfully held employment at DTLR, Walmart, and in the customer care center at CVS Corporate.

Morgan and Alicia were two, very, special people. They will be missed by a loving extended family and countless friends.

The family has requested that memorial donations be made to the HER Shelter www.hershelter.com

Mother and Daughter

It’s a special bond that spans the years. Through laughter, worries, smiles, and tears. A sense of trust that can’t be broken, a depth of love sometimes unspoken. A lifelong friendship built on sharing, hugs, kisses, warmth and caring.  Mother and daughter, their hearts as one – A link that can never be undone.
