Athena Avery

Athena was born on September 28, 1982. She was the daughter of Margaret Butts Lee and her late father, Edward Dexter Turner.

Athena was educated in the Norfolk Public School System, where she graduated and went on to join the United States Army, making it her career. She served during wartime and faithfully carried out many other duties assigned to her. Athena completed her career in the United States Army, receiving honors and numerous awards.

Athena was preceded in death by her father, Edward Dexter Turner, and brother, Datrionne L. Curtis.

Athena leaves to cherish her memories, her mother, Margaret Butts Lee; stepfather, Perry Lee; sister, Latoya Artis; 4 brothers, Daryl Curtis, Davonta L. Lee, Dalvin L. Lee, and Zaire X. Lee; one son, Ja’quez D. Butts; 2 daughters, Adazia L. Butts and Jazaria L. Avery; 2 grandsons, Jacorey W. Avery and Hendrix M. Butts; sisters-in-law, NeeNee Lio-Lee and Charity Fisher; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other family, and friends.
