Beatrice Williams

Beatrice Anderson Williams, age 95, passed away on April 4, 2022, surrounded by her loving children, at Leigh Memorial Hospital, Virginia Beach, Virginia. Born in Norfolk, VA, she was the daughter of the late John and Annie Bell Anderson.

Beatrice was a 1943 graduate of Booker T Washington High School where she excelled in academics.  She received an Associates Degree in Business Administration at Norfolk State College. Beatrice Williams began her career at Norfolk Naval Supply Center as an administrative secretary and was the first African American female employed in that position.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Lieutenant Williams, stepson George Kelly, siblings, William McPherson, Thelma Boswell, Mildred Anderson, Evelyn Bradley, and Audrey Cherry. Beatrice is cherished in memory by her children Dr. Yvette B.  Williams (Alfred), Llewellyn Williams (Louise), Arnette W. Riggins (Terry), sister, Louise Lambert, 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and Jeanette Johnson, a caregiver for over 17 years.

Her care of preparation for burial has been entrusted to Keith Matthews Funeral Home, 5665 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, VA. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, from 3-6pm. The funeral will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 745 Park Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23504.
