On August 5, 2022, Mrs. Bertha Lee Osborne Fennell was peacefully called to eternal rest. She was born August 1,1943 in Surry County VA to the late Herbert Osborne and Emma Spratley Osborne.
In the early 1950’s the Osborne family moved to the Brambleton section of Norfolk and joined Mount Lebanon Baptist Church.
Bertha was a popular member of the 1961 graduating class of Booker T. Washington High School.
After high school, Bertha met and married the love of her life, Mr. James Fennell Sr. They were married on December 30, 1962. To this union were born, James Fennell Jr. (Junie) and Sabrina Fennell Young.
Bertha worked at J.H. Miles Co. as a Quality Control specialist. She liked her job. But the thing she loved most about working at J.J. Miles was that she got to see her brother Michael and sister, Emma “every day.” She retired in 1998, with 32 years of service.
Bertha was an extraordinary woman who left a legacy of caring deeply for her husband, children, family, and the person standing in front of her.
Bertha loved dancing with her husband, especially on their Dec 30th anniversary. They always started out with a gift of two dozen roses. Bertha liked to “party” after she fixed dinner. They were married 38 years.
Bertha loved watching old TV shows and movies, i.e., Walker Texas Ranger and, “The Bodyguard.” She loved flowers, cooking for the family, and sharing Sunday dinner with anyone who quickly visited.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Sabrina Young (Harold), three grandchildren, Marcus Young (Amy), Markia Young (Stephon), and Carlos Heath; one great-grandson, Kingston Young; three sisters, Edith Staten, Jestine Brooks, and Arlene Bond (Jeremiah); one brother, Michael Allmond (Barbara). Bertha also leaves with precious memories, two sisters in- law, Carlean Thompson, and Leila Franklin, two brothers in-law, Lewis Thompson (Ernestine) and Alvin Tucker; a host of loving nieces and, nephews.
