Brenda Patricia (Pat) Smoke Blount departed this world on December 15, 2024, after a long illness. She was born in Schenectady, New York on January 25, 1940, to Mr. Lawrence Richard Smoke and Mrs. Doris Felicia Hawkins. Brenda attended elementary school at P.S. 157 in Manhattan and P.S. 63 in Bronx, NY. From there she attended Middle School P.S. 55 in Manhattan, NY. In 1957, Brenda graduated from Washington Ervin H.S. in Manhattan, NY. Brenda enjoyed her life in New York and shared many happy memories of her aunties and grandmother who helped shape her in the person she became.
She spent her life as a devoted mother, wife, and friend to many. On July 15, 1958, Brenda was blessed with the birth of her only son Richard K. Blount-Valderde. In April 1960, Brenda married James Daniel Blount. From their union was born their beautiful daughter “Shirley”. In 1961, the family packed up everything and made the big move to Boston, Massachusetts. Brenda raised her family and lived in Boston for 40 years. While there Brenda enjoyed a long career as a librarian at Cabot Science Library at Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts. After 25 years of service, Brenda retired and moved to Aulandra, North Carolina. In her lifetime Brenda loved to experience the world and enjoyed traveling. Her favorite was cruising to Jamaica and the Bahamas.
Brenda was preceded in death by her son Richard and her daughter Shirley. Left to cherish her memory is her lovely and kind-spirited granddaughter Felicia Verna’ Blount. She is Brenda’s Number 1 Forever. Also left to mourn her passing are her first cousin and childhood friend Arlene Wallace (GA), cousins Donald Wallace, Jr (GA), Craig Wallace (NY), Reese Wallace (AZ), nephews Andre Hawkins (CT) and Lance Hawkins (MD). She also leaves a host of cherished friends and relatives. Brenda’s straight-talking and honest spirit will be missed. She enjoyed a good laugh and LOVED her family. Her memory will stay in our hearts forever.
