Brenda Cheryl Pettit Simpkins, daughter of the late Edgar Pettit Sr. and Naomi Peters Pettit, was born March 4, 1961 in Accomac Virginia. She departed this life on Friday, May 8, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock, Virginia.
Brenda was a member of Abba’s House Church in Parksley VA. She loved reading her Bible and listening to gospel music. She was also a huge sports fanatic. Brenda was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs. Although her favorite player was not on either of her favorite teams, she constantly showed her support for Lebron James every chance she could.
Brenda married Hiram Simpkins June 4, 1977. They gave life to four children and helped raise two grandchildren. Brenda loved her children but her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the real apples of her eyes. Brenda was preceded in death by her husband Hiram and brother Alvin.
Brenda was fortunate to find love again when she met Victor Matthews Sr of Onancock Virginia. Not only did Victor love her but he also helped spoil her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her life will forever be cherished in the lives of her four children: Aaron Pettit (Katrina) of Columbia SC, Avery Pettit (Zakiya) Waldorf MD, Tynnatta Pettit of Fort Mill SC, and Angel Simpkins (Markebus Walker) of Charlotte NC; two step children Victor Lee Matthews Jr and Keara Collins; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Edgar Jr of Baltimore MD, Franklin (Denise) of New Church VA, Graylen of Fayetteville NC; two sisters, Mercedes and Paula of Accomac VA; two Aunts, Marietta Parker of Accomac, Catherine Mason of Chicago IL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
