Calvin Lewis Latimer slipped away peacefully in the arms of the Lord on June 11, 2026. He was born November 26, 1929 to the late Robert G. Latimer and Alberta Simpson Latimer in Anderson, South Carolina.
Calvin attended Anderson County Public Schools. His parents relocated to Norfolk, Virginia, where he was a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School where he was a member of the Marching Band and attended Norfolk State College. Calvin served his country with Honor in the United States Army.
At an early age he was Baptized at First Baptist Church Bute Street and was a member for over 66 years. Calvin served as a member of the Chancel Choir, Usher Board, Deacon Board and has been a member for over 40 years before taking Emeritus Status. He worked diligently with the Soup Kitchen for many years, and was a member of The Boy Scout Troop #77 of First Baptist Church. Calvin was a member of the Bachelor’s Benedict Social Club for over 60 years.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Mable Harris Latimer. She was his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 71 years.
He is survived by his devoted daughter, Calvette Young (Karl), grandchildren Roderick Young and Karla Simmons (Erasto), and great-granddaughter Maylaha Danielle Young.
