Cornelius Demus Obituary

Cornelius Demus Jr., (Poppa D., Sugar Man, Demus), 88, of Poplar Halls in Norfolk, Virginia departed this life Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Veterans Medical Center after a brief illness. 
Cornelius was born July 11, 1934 to the late Cornelius Demus Sr. and Thelma Ross Demus in Lexington, Kentucky, Fayette County. After his studies he enlisted into the Navy. 
On December 18, 1966 Cornelius married Petrona McMorrin in London, England moved to Beaufort, South Carolina, then later moved to Norfolk, VA. where they resided and graciously raised their children. While in the Navy, Cornelius received several awards including Honorable Discharge after 36 years, many good conduct awards, several service medals and ribbons retiring as a Navy Master Chief Officer, and 20 years at the Postal Service in Norfolk. After retirement, he spent his spare time helping anyone in need investing into his family and thrifting, always willing to give.
Cornelius was predeceased by his late wife of 50 years Petrona Demus, grand parents, Emanuel Demus, Lucy Demus, two sisters, Rebecca Bates, Dorothy Demus, three brothers, Felix Demus, Thomas Demus, Leonard Demus, two brother in Laws, Roydell McMurry, Rentford McMorrin. He leaves to cherish his memories five children Cherry Lynn McMorrin-Demus Petersburg, Va., Cerela (Rodney) Perry Rocky Mount, N.C., Cornelius Demus III Rocky Mount, N.C., Dereck Demus Norfolk, VA., Beverly Rankin Miami-Dade, FL., nine grandchildren, Jackie Demus, Donte Demus, Quinton Amos, Patrick Young Jr., Terrell Amos, Cerela Antoine'  Harris, Rochelle Dickerson, Cherelle Brown, five great-grand children, Zues Demus, Shaniyah Parker, Jeriah Mojette, Josiah Williams, Jahmere Anderson, two great-great-great grandchildren, Carter Jones, Hailey Dickerson, one sister Mary Margaret Demus Lexington, KY., two son-in-laws, Rodney Perry, George Amos, one sister in law, Lurline Dunn NY. NY., a host of deeply loved nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
