Curtis T. Simon was born on November 20, 1954, in Norfolk, VA and departed this life on May 4, 2024.
Curtis left Norfolk at an early age and relocated with his family to Washington, DC. He attended public schools there, graduating from Coolidge High School in 1972.
Curtis was the first-born son, he had an engaging personality, and an entrepreneurial spirit along with a tremendous work ethic. He was employed by United Mine Workers and while there, he attended Prince Georges Community College where he earned an associate degree. He subsequently went to work for the Bureau of Natural Affairs as a Purchasing Manager, and he later moved on to work for the Coca-Cola Bottling Company.
He met and married Chauncey Douglas; the two were a loving couple who enjoyed the best life had to offer. They relocated to Atlanta, GA after Curtis received a promotion while working for Coca-Cola.
Years later, upon learning of his grandmother’s illness, he relocated to Norfolk to assist in her care and made it his permanent residence. He opened a business that offered moving and renovation services that resulted in good success.
Curtis unexpectedly suffered a debilitating stroke, which forced him to retire on disability.
He was preceded in death by his father Stanley, his grandmother Beatrice, a cousin, Percell, Jr., and two uncles, Carlyle, and Joshua.
Left to mourn his passing are his mother, Barbara, former wife, Chauncey, three brothers, Richard, Gregory, and Daryl, four sisters, Sharon, Jamiya, Debbie, and Celeste, a special aunt, Bernice, uncles, Percell, Sr., Donnell, and Tony, nieces, nephews, including Eric, a special nephew, a special childhood friend, Raymond, friends, Dawn, Miss Ann, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Many thanks to his caregivers, who were faithful and provided excellent care to him.
The Family would like to sincerely thank Dawn and Miss Ann for their invaluable support and assistance provided during Curtis’ illness and afterwards.
Curtis had a beautiful spirit, he was kind, he never met a stranger, and he left us much too soon. Rest in peace.
