Cynthia Sessoms Obituary

On Sunday Evening October 25, 2020 Cynthia Boone Sessoms entered eternal peaceful rest following a lengthy illness.  She was the third daughter born to the late Cetha Sr. and Alice Boone on September 26, 1951.
She began her formal education in Portsmouth Public Schools where she attended and graduated from I. C. Norcom High School in 1969.  Cynthia received the Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education in 1974 from Norfolk State University.  She later received her Master of  Special Education from Old Dominion University.  She was employed with Portsmouth Public Schools and later was employed with Chesapeake Public Schools.
Cynthia was a woman who enjoyed the finer things in life. She was courageous, fiercely loyal, generous and wouldn't accept "no" for an answer. She was known as the "queen of boundaries" and once she made a decision, it was final, "no further discussion".
As a teacher for 30 years, Cynthia served on many committees and always went above and beyond to help a student.  Her gifts of determination, endurance and love gave her all she needed to assist the students with their special and unique needs.  She attended the Hopewell  Church as a child , her father being the presiding pastor and later joined Mount Bethel Baptist Church in Virginia Beach.  There she served as a faithful member and giver until her health began to fail.
She was a past member of The Drifters and Jack and Jill Organizations.  She also had membership with the National Association of Teachers, and Teachers of Special Needs Students.
Cynthia was predeceased in death by her mother and father, Cetha Sr. and Alice Boone.  She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Jillian Sessoms, her sisters Alicia (Lynwood), Yvonne (Martin), brother Cetha Jr. and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Special thanks to her caregivers, Heartland Hospice, Veronica, Arnold and Suzette of IC Duncan Home of Guiding Hands, Heart and Hand Adult Care, Staff of Sentara Leigh Hospital, The Emergency Medical Transport Men and Women, and Jean Wheeler of Encompass Health.
Her tenacious spirit and careful acceptance of people made her one who gave with her whole heart.  Her close friends Peggy Peebles and Rosa Wells will cherish their many talks, hours of laughter, good times and friendship.
She will be missed
