On Saturday, June 17, 2023, our beloved Danyal Yvette Brown–Lumsden, also known as “Danni B” , departed this life at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. She was born on Thursday, January 10, 1980 at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Virginia, to Theresa Olds Mitchell of Virginia Beach, VA and Martin L. Brown Sr. of Philadelphia, PA.
Danyal spent her childhood summers in Philly with her brother Martin aka “Man” with their dad’s side of the family, but grew up in Virginia Beach, VA where she attended grade school and Ocean Lakes High School. She moved around and lived in Virginia Beach and Norfolk, before meeting a mutual Cowboy’s fan 8 years ago, who soon became the love of her life and husband and whom she laid down roots with in Elizabeth City, NC.
Aside from getting to be a mom, one of Danyal’s other biggest accomplishments was being lead preschool teacher at Precious Gifts Educational Center in Camden, NC, where she worked for the past 8 years with children whom she also adored.
Though she had a lot of great memories, Danyal’s early journey of life wasn’t easy to say the least. She fought hard to balance out the lows, make positive changes and turn her life around for the better. She lovingly accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior before she became ill, did her best to operate out of the kindness of her heart and gave back, even on her birthday. For anyone who knew Danyal, knows that she was goofy, loved to crack jokes and had the most contagious laugh that filled up a room. She had a knack for making jewelry, doing hair, especially braiding and styling her own. She also loved to cook, deliver food to loved ones and have them critique her dishes. Danyal was very artistic – she could draw and loved to decorate. She also loved to read and was nice with a pen and paper. She had a love for music and a beautiful singing voice – you were very special if you ever got to hear her, because she was shy and didn’t just sing for any and everyone. These are just some of the attributes that she and her two younger siblings inherited from their mother… well maybe not so much of the singing voice
