On a sunny May day in 1957, the world welcomed a vibrant spirit by the name of Deborah Francine Fields. Deborah's passing on February 18, 2025, at the age of 67, leaves behind an indelible mark on all who knew her. Known for being fiercely intelligent, lovingly outspoken, and undeniably feisty, Deborah's presence was like a whirlwind of warmth and wisdom.
Deborah graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. She furthered her education at Norfolk State University and the University of the District of Columbia, where she pursued her passion for law. Her career included brief stints at Arista Records and U.S Department of Labor, but she truly found her calling as a legal secretary, working for various law firms across Virginia, Maryland, New York, and Washington, D.C. In her early 20s, she also served as a court reporter and later worked with AARP, showcasing her versatility and commitment to her professional endeavors.
Deborah is survived by her two daughters, Tiffany Fields and her favorite child, Cecilee Fields; her two sons, Jamane Fields and Mario Fields; and her five cherished grandchildren, Sha'Kyra Fields, Shai'Qui Mckesson, Dameyana Boykins, Ava Fields, and Ari Fields. She was also blessed with one great-grandchild, Mela Hayes, Her sisters, LaNoda Alexander, Sandra Clark, Dr. Beverly Bonner, a brother Walter Chatman Jr.; Stepfather Walter Chatman Sr. She also leaves behind her long-time partner, Alton "Vincent" Reed.
Deborah was preceded in death by her mother, Lee Ella Chatman; her legal father, Earl Fields Sr.; her biological father, Willie Cherry; and her siblings: Norris Fields, David Fields, Tracy Chatman, Earl Fields, Willie Fields, and her sister, Diane Fields. Her legacy is not only carried on by her family but also by the countless lives she touched throughout her journey.
Despite any challenges faced, Debo love was fierce and her spirit indomitable She was known for her candidness and could often be heard delivering her thoughts with a sharp wit and humor that left an impression on everyone around her. While she might have "cussed us all out" on occasion, those moments were often accompanied by valuable life lessons that instilled in her family a resilience that no words could ever diminish. Deborah's life was a tapestry woven with unforgettable experiences, laughter, and love. She had an incredible ability to build lasting strength in her loved ones, reminding them that they were capable of overcoming any obstacle. Her presence illuminated the lives of those fortunate enough to know her, and her memory will forever echo in the hearts of her family and friends.
