Deloris (Laurie) Powell transitioned this life into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 19, 2021. She was born on December 22,1966 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late James and Deloris V. Powell. She was predeceased by her sister Jean Wilder and her brothers Bernard Wilder, Willie Donnell Powell and Roland Edmonds.
Deloris grew up on Reservoir Avenue in Brambleton. She was the baby of 11 siblings. She attended Booker T. Washington High School where she was a phenomenal basketball player. She was employed with Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for over 10 years in the Dietary Department where her God given gift of serving others encouraged, enlightened, and put joy in the hearts and a smile on the face of all the patients she came in contact with. Her excellent service was so special that she even had a floor of her own. Her gift of serving also extended beyond the hospital doors. She took her gifts outside the four walls into the neighborhood of Barraud Park where she consistently fed the homeless and helped those who were in need. Her beautiful smile, laughter, sense of humor, and style of dress was so infectious that she was loved by everyone.
The fun and laughter that she shared with her siblings leaves a joy filled memory in their hearts and on their minds. She was greatly loved by her siblings, sister and brother in laws, aunts, uncles and all those who knew her well. Her love and care for her nieces and nephews touched their lives in such a way that it helped them to become the people they are today.
She leaves to cherish in memory her fiancé, Anthony High, brothers David Wilder (Valerie), James Wilder, sisters Ruby Powell, Angela Williams (Elman), Lynette Vaughan (Leroy), Rosalind Edmonds and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She will always remain in the hearts of her family.
