On February 9, 2026, Heaven gently opened its gates, and an angel walked across this earth with a silent prayer, calling our beloved Don Alvin Spruill home to eternal rest. Though our hearts are heavy, we trust that God makes no mistakes, and His timing is always divine.
Don Alvin Spruill was born on December 22, 1946, to the late Lena Spruill. From the very beginning, his life was filled with strength, personality, and a spirit that could not be ignored.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving daughters, Ywakia Johnson of Florida and Crystal Johnson of Norfolk; his son, Brandon Knight of Norfolk; his cherished grandson, Chauncey Love of Florida; and his brother, Samuel Spruill. His legacy lives on through them.
Don was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Arthur and Susan B. Anthony; his brothers, Hillary Spruill and William Spruill; his son, Glesean Don Evans; and his dear sister, JoAnn Osborne. Though he has joined them in eternal peace, his memory remains forever rooted in the hearts of those who loved him.
He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family who will truly miss him — especially the Jackson, Morris, and Lewis families, who held a special place in his life.
A heartfelt and sincere thank you to Arlisha, Ashonti, Angel, Diane, Latifia, Nakeisa, and Antonio Jr. for the love, care, and compassion shown to Don throughout the years. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
Affectionately known as “Don Juan,” as he proudly introduced himself, Don attended school in Norfolk and worked several jobs, including with the ILA Longshoremen Association. He was a man who carried himself with confidence and charm.
Don was truly the life of the party. Anywhere he went, conversation followed. He had a smooth way about him quick with his words, light on his feet, and yes, his hands were even faster. His sense of humor, charisma, and unmistakable presence made him unforgettable.
Though his earthly journey has ended, his spirit lives on in every laugh, every story shared, and every memory treasured.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”
2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)
Sleep in peace, Don. Your race is finished, and now you are free.
