Doris Brooks Obituary

Doris C. Brooks was born June 24, 1935, to Ezra and Viola Williams in Sparks, Georgia. She stayed with
her grandmother in Tifton, Georgia. She was raised by various family members until eventually she was
old enough to live on her own. She followed two of her aunts to Washington D.C. where she lived the
majority of her life. In her twenties she took beautician classes and modeled three years for various
black magazines. She worked several jobs and even started her own business. She decided to move to
Ohio in hopes to find better opportunities.
She was always civic-minded and volunteered with many others to help Councilman Carl B. Stokes
become the first Black Mayor of Cleveland, Ohio. Eventually she moved back to Washington D.C. and
worked as a manager for McDonald’s and Peoples Drug Stores. In her later years, she worked diligently
to ensure seniors received benefits that were offered by the City of Washington D.C. and later Silver
Springs, Maryland.
Once she moved to Silver Springs, Maryland, she started an apartment association for the tenants and
became the go-to between management and the residents. She served in this capacity for many years
until she moved down to Virginia to be with her family. Doris was known for teasing and her quick wit.
She was incredibly pleased and thankful that God had called her son, his wife, and her grandchildren to
the ministry.
Doris passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the age of eighty-nine. Doris is
survived by her son Pastor Robert Williams, his wife Elder Deloise, and her four grandchildren: Elder
Jessica Williams, Elder Joshua Williams, Joanna Meza, and Minister Anthony Meza. She is loved greatly
and will be missed by family and friends.
