Mrs. Evelyn Forbes Wills was born January 21, 1942 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Mrs. Mary Forbes and Mr. Emmeritt Forbes. She departed her earthly home on Sunday, August 23, 2020 to go to her heavenly home.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents (Mary and Emmeritt Forbes), her grandparents ( Willie and Mary Fields) and her Great grandmother (Elizabeth Newby) who stepped in to raise her after her parent’s death and by the love of her life her husband Mr. Montgomery Wills III.
Evelyn accepted Christ at an early age at Jerusalem Baptist church and later joined Mount Hermon Baptist Church where she served until God called her home.
Evelyn received her education in Norfolk, Virginia graduating from Booker T. Washington High School
and Norfolk State University then known as Norfolk Division of Virginia State College where she
received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She was employed with Norfolk Public
Schools after she graduated and remained there until she retired after 35 years of service.
Evelyn loved teaching and during her tenure as a teacher in the Norfolk Public School System she
performed a long list of duties and taught multiple grade levels. Evelyn was a caring, patient,
hardworking, and reliable person as an educator and was full of compassion and love. She was loved by
her students and made all feel special, important and capable of learning. The most difficult students in
her class were understood and were eager to please her because of the love she showed them. Parents
loved having her as their child’s teacher and respected her methods of handling situations.
Evelyn’s greatest talent was playing the piano. She started out as a teenager playing for Jerusalem Baptist Church’s Sunday school and special programs. As a true musician, she continued to make her mark by playing for her church and special events at schools she worked in and in the community. Evelyn retired and did what most say and never do, she traveled across the country with a group of friends and acquaintances two times a year.
Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory a daughter Florene Wills, two sons Montgomery Wills IV, and Marvin Gordon, a loving brother Emmett Forbes (Andrea), other siblings in the household Dr. Beverly Bonner, Sandra Moore-Clark (Cecil), Eleanor Hawkins (Lawrence) two sister-in- laws Helen Gaither,
