Floyd Alston, Jr. Obituary

Floyd Owens Alston Jr., age 65, of Norfolk, Virginia peacefully departed this life on October 17, 2025.  He was born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Floyd Owens Alston Sr. and Ida Mae Alston.  Floyd was a proud native of his hometown and a man deeply rooted in faith, family, and the community.

Floyd was known for his generous spirit, his love for working with his hands, and his devotion to helping others.  Whether tending to his garden or fixing something for a neighbor or repairs in his house, Floyd found joy in being a true handyman-always ready to assist with a smile, and a helping hand.  His quiet strength and humor touched the lives of many.

Floyd was also admired for his strong work ethic and kind spirit during his five year tenure working at BAE System Norfolk Shipyard.

Floyd leaves to Cherish his memories his loving children: his first-born daughter, Amanda Nesha’ Sawyer-Turner (Calvin), his son LaVar Artybridge, and youngest daughter Endia Richardson.  He was the proud grandfather of three beautiful grandchildren: Semaj Amari Sawyer Jones, Nyema-Jalaya Couser, and Taylor Couser, each of whom brought immense joy and pride.

He is also survived by his devoted sister, Florrie Christy Roberson, his nephew Ronnie Roberson, and his niece Tiffany Roberson, all of whom loved him dearly.  Floyd also leaves behind his lifelong best friend and brother in spirit, Charles McAllister Sr, with whom he’s shared at least 60 years of unbreakable friendship.  Lastly, he leaves to cherish memories with his female companion, Ms. Yvonne Covil who he shared many years of unwavering love with.  Floyd also leaves behind his neighbors Robin and Nita who were always there during his times of need.  He also leaves behind a host of other relatives and loved ones that may not have been mentioned.

Floyd’s faith remained strong throughout his life, and he leaves behind a family who will miss his kindness and steadfast presence.  His memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
