Geneva Pierce Solomon was born in Screven County, Georgia, to the late Gus Solomon and Willie Mae Pierce-Washington. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Geneva Pearl Lawton; two grandchildren, El-Jahnea Omega Lawton and Da'Arnye DaShawn Edwards; four brothers, James East Solomon, Leo Frank Solomon, Lee Ernest Solomon, and Julius Washington, Jr.; two sisters, Nellie Ruth Washington-Moss and Lillian Felton-Payton.
Geneva was raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut, by her late Aunt Florine Belcher and Uncle Solomon Belcher. As a little girl, she sang in the choir and served in the church. Geneva was active in various clubs and on the cheerleading squad throughout high school. She excelled in sewing, which became her passion. She was renowned for her skill as a seamstress and could create intricate designs by hand without the need for a sewing machine.
Geneva's life was a testament to her unwavering faith in Christ, a guiding force that she upheld until her
passing. She was an active member of the Kingdom Builders Church in Norfolk, serving as the International Mother. Her love for the Lord was not just a belief, but a way of life that was evident in her actions. She was always ready to share her faith and offer encouragement, her parting words, "Peace", a reflection of her desire for harmony and tranquility in the world.
Geneva transitioned from this life on July 2, 2024. She leaves to cherish her children: two daughters, Ralpheana Lawton and Evangelist Savaadra Lawton; two sons, Pastor Ralph Lawton, Jr. and Shannon Lawton; Grandchildren, Shanice Lawton, Carolyn Lawton, Maxie Lawton, Areli Edwards, Precious Edwards, Aylah Lawton, Donte Lucas-Lawton, Aaron Lawton, Charity Lawton, Psalmonica Lawton, David Lawton, Jean’tavis Lawton, Jordan Lawton, Blessing-Abeni Lawton, and five additional grandchildren; her siblings, one brother Charles Washington, three sisters, Sandy Ross, Lizzie Washington and Gloria Crockett, a host of great grands, one great-great, a host of nieces & nephews.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Wanda Lawton for her unwavering care,
as well as the doctors and staff of Jencare in Norfolk, Virginia, the Amedisys Home Health Care Team,
and the Gentiva Hospice nurses. Their dedication and support were invaluable during Geneva's final
days. They would also like to thank Nykki Hill and The Fields Family for their continuous support and
assistance.
