Herbert Gantt, III was born in Jacksonville, Florida on January 12, 1957 to Herbert, Jr. and Mary Gantt. He attended Wolfson High School and Culinary School. He worked at the Smithfield Plant until it closed, public utilities in Portsmouth for a short while, and at East West Construction in Virginia Beach until his illness stopped him from working. He enjoyed listening to music, dancing, cooking, working on cars, fishing, and rooting for the Jacksonville Jaguars
He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Elridge Gantt, Jr., mother Mary Gantt, and sister Mellonee Faye, all of Jacksonville Florida.
Herbert leaves to cherish his memories, sister Cathy Hickson of Jacksonville, Florida; close friends Rickey Cooper (Norfolk, VA), Roy Watford (Norfolk, VA), Jeffery Duke (Georgia), Me Hem Adams (Georgia), William Coly (Jacksonville, FL), George Wiley (Jacksonville, FL), Alexander McShay (Jacksonville, FL); very special friend Frances Price; and a host of other relatives and friends.
