Herb Weaver: A Well Lived Life
This is a celebration of life for Herbert (Herb) Claude Weaver, a man of unshakeable principle, a Marine at heart, with an unmistakable presence. On Wednesday, October 22, 2025, Herb, peacefully entered into his eternal rest.
Herb was born the 2nd of 12 children on April 24, 1945 in St. Louis Missouri to John Wesley Weaver and Catherine Marie Weaver, both deceased. Being one of the older siblings, Herb readily assumed the role of a responsible leader to his younger siblings.
Herb graduated from Pruitt Elementary and Vaughan High School in St. Louis. Upon graduation, Herb enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in December of 1963 and served in the Marine Recon Division in Vietnam until October 1967. After receiving an honorable discharge, Herb pursued and obtained a college degree in Business Finance. Soon thereafter, he was employed with General Motors Automobile Incorporated (GMAC) in the finance department and worked there for over 18 years. This was quite fitting since Herb loved to work with cars and became a “bootleg” mechanic at the age of 8 in his uncle Lemuel’s auto shop.
Herb was also an experienced tailor and owned several clothing and linen stores in Hampton Roads. Although Herb was born in St. Louis, he came to the Tidewater area in the late seventies on a business trip. Herb loved it so much that he decided to make his home here. He was a longstanding member of Unity Church of Tidewater and was active in several ministries. As an avid sports enthusiast of golf, tennis and especially football, Herb loved to cheer for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Herb lived life fully and authentically and was married 4 times (Josie, Shirley, Kim, and Ada). Herb leaves to cherish his memory 5 children: Ronald L. Weaver, Robert A. Weaver, Mary C. Weaver, Mark J. Weaver, Zhaliah Jordaine*, and Yasmine J. Akbar. Herb’s siblings are: John W. Weaver, JR*, (Louise), Mary A. Williams (Bennie), Catherine M. Weaver*, James M. Weaver*, Ethel M. Blade (Michael*), Esther L. Weaver (Carl*), Clifford V. Weaver (Gerri), Lauretta J. Weaver*, Rita D. Weaver (Tyrone*), Stephan M. Weaver (Cynthia), and Joseph E. Weaver (Peggy) - and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other beloved relatives and close friends.
He also leaves to cherish his memory his present wife of 10 years, Ada and her family. Herb was a friendly, generous, and good- hearted person. He loved to walk in the neighborhood and was never a stranger to anyone. Herb also was well dressed, fun loving and loved to dance. Additionally, Herb loved to travel to his annual 3rd Recon Association Reunions and was delighted to reminisce with his fellow marine buddies. He will be missed!
