James Roxson Blount, affectionately known as Rocky, was born October 29, 1981, to Joyce James Blount and the late Roxson Perry Blount Jr. He departed this life on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
Rocky attended school in Chesapeake, VA graduating from Great Bridge High School. After high school, he attended Norfolk State University where he earned a Business Administration degree with honors. Rocky was a continuous learner who enjoyed reading, journaling, and research.
In addition, Rocky was employed at the Norfolk Assembly Ford Plant until it closed. His favorite pastimes included watching football and cheering for his favorite team, the Pittsburg Steelers, eating Caribbean food, taking pictures with his daughter, and participating in his many adventures with his cousins including summer visits, hanging out, weddings, road trips, and vacations. Rocky was a constant at holiday and family celebrations, especially on Christmas Eve and Christmas. Many admired his fashion forward style which was on trend. He attended New Weeping Mary Baptist Church and Calvary Revival.
Rocky was preceded in death by his father, Roxson Perry Blount Jr., paternal grandparents Roxson Blount Sr. and Ody Blount, and maternal grandparents Linwood James Sr. and Elizabeth James.
He leaves to cherish his memories a daughter Jaenya Cooper Blount, mother Joyce James Blount, a brother Roxson Perry Blount III (Mykeysha), a sister Tecaria Arlette Blount, aunts Bernadette J. Stratton (Gregory), Tina James, Veronica Kennon (Mark), Lynn Felton, uncles Linwood James Jr., Lawrence James (Phyllis), Connell Savage, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends.
