Janice Tann Obituary

Janice Wrae Tann, 70, daughter of the late Roy and Mary Elizabeth Toxey, was born on July 26, 1949 in Milford, Delaware. On April 21, 2020 God whispered to Janice and said it’s time to come home and rest.

Janice received her education in the North Carolina public school system. Most of her early years she went to Marian Anderson High School in Belcross, NC and graduated from P.W. Moore High School in Elizabeth City, NC.

She gave her life to Christ and was baptized at a young age. She became a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Shiloh, NC where she sang on the choir.

On October 28, 1972, Janice was united in Holy matrimony with her longtime soulmate, Raymond Tann. To this union two children were born. After 48 years of marriage they became best friends and confidants to each other.

Janice was employed as a bus driver for the City of Norfolk’s public school system for 34 years. Janice loved family gatherings, and the love she had for her husband and children. The kindness she showed and gave to us will surely be missed. She loved all types of sports from tennis, football, baseball, basketball and the likes. I remember calling her long distance just to say hello and once she answered the phone and realized it was me, she said “I’m watching a tennis match”, and hung up the phone.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Eleanora Spruill and Joyce Jackson; and two brothers, Roger and Quinton Toxey.

Janice leaves to cherish her memory; her husband, Raymond Tann; her daughter, Tarnetta Natasha Tann; her son, Raymond Tann Jr.; three sisters, Celestine Arrington (Larry), Cordell Moore (Ellwood), and Thomasine Toxey; four brothers, Wayne Toxey (Vickie), Marshall Toxey (Tammie), Reginald Toxey (Paul), and Julius Toxey (Myke), many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of relatives and friends.
