Jessie Mae Foreman Cuffee went home to be with The Lord December 10, 2020. She was born on May 28, 1924 to the late Paul Foreman, Sr. and Gracie Lee White of Princess Anne County, VA. Jessie attended school in Princess Anne County, Virginia. For more than 25 years she worked as a Dietitian with Norfolk Public Schools. Jessie was one of the first African Americans to work at Poplar Halls Elementary School when it first became integrated. After retiring, she continued her public service work with The Salvation Army providing support to the City of Norfolk community. Jessie was a life-long member of New St. John A.M.E. Church, Virginia Beach, serving as President of the Senior Usher Board, Sergeant-At-Arms of the Senior Choir, Chaplain of the Mass Choir, and Treasurer of the St. John's Chapter of The Eastern Stars. Jessie was a loving, dedicated and devoted wife and mother who loved being with family and friends, and preparing meals for holidays and celebrations. She enjoyed sewing, needle point, crocheting and word puzzles. Jessie and her loving husband James, Sr. loved to dance and always made time to have an evening out monthly to keep their love and marriage of 70 years strong.
Jessie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years James Cuffee, Sr., brother Paul Foreman, Jr., sister Margaret Jones and 4 Grandsons, Corey Cuffee, Lance D. Cuffee, Daniel Xavier Cuffee and Little Daniel Cuffee. She leaves behind daughter Patsy Cuffee-Browne of Culpeper, VA,, 5 sons; Ernest J. Cuffee of Orlando, FL, James, Jr.(wife Rosalyn) and Larry Cuffee(wife Joann) of Norfolk, Milton Cuffee(wife Constance) of Louisville, KY and Jerry Cuffee of Manassas, VA. She also leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and a hosts of great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mom, although you are no longer with us in this world, your spirit will live within us forever. "Ladybug", as she was sweetly named by her first grandchild Cassandra Mitchell, will be truly missed by her loving children, generations of grandchildren, family, and friends.
