John Epps Williams, Jr. Obituary

John Epps Williams, Jr. was born on March 5, 1947 in Brooklyn, New York to the union of John Epps Williams, Sr. and Rubeatrice (Norfleet) Williams, both of Norfolk, Virginia. When he was still a young child, John and his family moved to Suffolk County on Long Island, NY.

After attending secondary school, John would make his way out to Oakland, California, where he would complete a career training program in construction with Job Corps. This training program would ultimately prepare him for what was to be his life's vocation as a licensed general contractor. His combined skill and passion made John a sought after contractor throughout his career.

John later met and married his former wife Dalma Holloway of Hempstead, NY. Together, they made their home on Long Island, where they would welcome a son, Kenneth Williams. John and Dalma also shared her son from a previous marriage, John's step-son, Keith Burgess.

For more than 30 years, John called Virginia's Hampton Roads area home, where he often enjoyed fishing, reminiscing with family and friends, and singing in his leisure time. Everyone in his family will certainly always remember his reliable rendition of Nat King Cole's classic "The Christmas Song." John's family was so important to him, and as many can attest, his generosity and humor extended to his friends as well.

John Williams departed this life on Tuesday, March 17, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rubeatrice Williams, and his sister, Carolyn (Williams) Gray.

Affectionately known as "Junie" by his family, John leaves them with many memories to cherish. He will be missed by his son, Kenneth Williams of Uniondale, NY; his sisters, Sylvia Knight of Lithonia, GA; Gloria Bryant (Henry) of Hempstead, NY; Fay Cole of Hempstead, NY; and April Hamilton of Norfolk, VA; his nieces and nephews, Sharon, Mark, George, Tonia, Nigel, Sheldon, Peter, Michael, Melissa, and Kimberly. A host of other relatives and friends will also be counted amongst the many who will miss John so dearly.
