Obituary

Johnnie Arrington, Jr. (82) was born December 31, 1940 in Nash County, North Carolina. Johnnie was the son of the late Johnnie Arrington, Sr. and Rosa Elmond Mitchell.

On Thursday, August 24, 2023, Johnnie quietly transitioned peacefully into the presence of our Heavenly Father while sleeping, surrounded by his wife and family.

Johnnie was educated in the Nash County School System. Johnnie later moved to Norfolk, Virginia. Johnnie was employed with Capital Concrete for over 50 years as a truck driver. While working there, he held many different positions. He was loved there and considered family. He retired as one of the top drivers and was well-respected and loved.

Johnnie had a radio broadcast on Sunday morning on WPCE Radio Station. Johnnie was married for 15 beautiful years to his lovely wife, Antionette E. Arrington. To this union, one daughter was born, Tanner Blythe Arrington.

Johnnie was a GREAT singer. He sang all types of music for many years. As he always said, “I sang Rock & Roll for many years with a lot of known artists!” Later, he found his passion singing Quartet Gospel music. He was the founder and lead singer of Johnnie Arrington & The Gospel Superiors. Johnnie had a voice that everyone enjoyed. He sang for many programs with various renowned Gospel artists. Johnnie’s signature song was “Sending Up My Timber.” He could sing other songs, but everyone wanted to hear “Sending Up My Timber.” Some people called him, “Sending Up My Timber Man”.

Johnnie was predeceased by his parents, Johnnie Arrington, Sr. and Rosa Elmond Arrington, two children, Johnathan Arrington and Venita Elizabeth Arrington, and several brothers and sisters.
