On Thursday, November 16, 2023, God sent his heavenly angel to come down to earth and take our beloved Johnnie Earl Bailey, to dwell with Him in His heavenly host.
Johnnie, as he was lovingly called, was born on December 12, 1947, to Johnnie and Thelma Bailey in Norfolk, VA. Johnnie loved to watch television and was gifted in his ability to fix anything using his hands. Johnnie was a stylish dresser and coordinated his outfits as evidenced by wearing his kufi hats that he had in every color.
As a child he attended Bowling Park Elementary School and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Johnnie was academically smart. He was a whiz in Math and enjoyed reading. After high school, his career spanned from Dixie Jue, Norfolk Distribution Company, and catering in Washington, D. C. He retired after 33 years from Ted Lansing Corporation, as a buyer.
After retirement he loved to spend more time with his beautiful wife Sandra. Together they enjoyed leisure activities. Often, they were found going to the movies, which was their favorite pass time. Johnnie and Sandra were inseparable. When you saw Johnnie - you saw Sandra. Sandra and Johnnie shared a deep love that was admired by family and friends.
Johnnie’s love for God was in perspective and exemplified through his relationships with everyone he met. Johnnie was likeable, quiet and had a humble spirit. He never minded helping other people. Whenever others were in need, Johnnie would share his abilities and resources to enhance their lives. For example, when he noted someone stranded on the highway, it was not uncommon for him to stop and aid them. His heart was as big as his love for God.
Loving memories will live on in the hearts of his wife of 54 years, Sandra; daughters: Lisa Taylor (Kenyton) and Lavonda Bailey; grandchildren: Brinty, Lil Raymond, and Breon; great-grandchildren: Treyvon, Teyon, Briyana and Emeri; one sister, Beverly Riddick; one brother-in-law, James Spivey; and, a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, and friends.
