Joyce Tynes

Joyce Brenda Tynes of Norfolk, Virginia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, on Thursday, June 13th.  Joyce was born to Timothy and Evelyn Ruffin on April 11, 1953. She was the youngest of 6 children.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 52 years Charles Tynes. Her daughters, Angela Raker (Jason), Consuella Tynes, and Christina Tynes. Her grandchildren Clara Massey (Stephen), Charles Cornelius, Raesean Raker (Selah), Erikah Drummond (Deondre), Jocylen Tynes, and Lyric Parham. Her great-granddaughters Alaina Massey, Naomi, and Lettavia Drummond. She also leaves behind several siblings Barbara Jones, Evelyn Davis (James), James Ruffin, Jacqueline Coles, and several nieces, nephews, in-laws, and many friends.

Joyce was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was always there when her family needed her. Her girls were her everything and she spent many years volunteering at her children’s school when they were growing up, she was the team mother for her children’s sports teams and received Volunteer of the Year. Joyce also loved to cook, make flower arrangements, and decorate. Her happiest moments were spending time with her family and friends. Joyce was always smiling, and you found her in the kitchen for most of the family functions. As a military wife, her family moved a lot, and Joyce ensured her family always felt safe, secure, and loved.

Joyce attended Eden Ministries faithfully and loved the Lord. She had a passion for singing and dancing. Joyce had the biggest heart and encouraged everyone she encountered. Instead of saying goodbye, she would always say, “Love you to the moon and back.” Words cannot express how much Joyce will be missed. She was the heart and soul of the family.

Family and Friends are welcomed on Thursday, June 20th from 3 p.m.-6 p.m. for Joyce’s viewing at Keth Matthews Funeral Home in Norfolk, Virginia. A Celebration of Life will take place Friday at 11 a.m. at Keith Matthews Funeral Home.
