After enduring suffering in the flesh, Missionary Julia E. Williams peacefully went home to be
with the Lord on Thursday, January 16th, 2025. Julia Ernestine Satterfield Williams was born on
August 10, 1942, in the Bells Mill area of Chesapeake, to the late Deacon Howard Leander
Satterfield and Mother Delilah Mae Satterfield.
She received her formal education in New York and was raised as a child in Mt. Olive COGIC
where her love for Christ flourished. Later in life, she became a devoted member of New Hope
Church of Christ Holiness, Christ Cathedral COGIC, and Better Life COGIC, where she served
faithfully until her health failed. Mother Williams played a crucial role in the establishment of
Better Life Ministries, being one of its pioneer members and serving as an initial Trustee. As
one of the church’s biggest supporters, she was appointed to the position of Church Mother in
1995.
On August 10, 2001, she received her credentials and became a licensed Missionary in the Iconic
Virginia 2nd Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ. She served on the State Mothers Board
and was president of both the Portsmouth District Mothers Board and the Better Life Church
Mothers Board.
Her work history includes roles at Bell Atlantic, Chesapeake Hardwood as a secretary, Rowena’s
and 7-Eleven as a clerk, and as a greeter and cashier at Walmart, where she retired at the age of
79. She cherished children, discount shopping, sharing her bargains with others, and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley T. Williams; children, Karen McCoy,
Crayton LeRoy Bell, Vance E. (Stevie) Satterfield, and Tonya Jennings; and siblings, Francis M.
Satterfield Howard L. Satterfield Jr., and Clinton D. Satterfield.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Phyllis Owens of Portsmouth; her son, Timothy T.
Williams of Chesapeake; 14 grandchildren; her siblings, Vivian Satterfield, Mildred Prostell,
Lorraine Leach (John), Stanley Satterfield (Eleanor), Vincent Satterfield (Vanessa), Claudia
Satterfield, LaVone Satterfield (Patricia), Velma McNair (Duane), Marvelette Cason (Raymond),
