Karen Holland Obituary

On Wednesday, December 7, 2022, God in His infinite wisdom deemed it timely to call our beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Niece, and His precious daughter Karen Regina Holland, from sixty years of earthly labor to a heavenly reward.

            Karen Regina Holland, 60, was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on July 10, 1962, to Willie Wynn (Manley) and Leo Wynn. Karen was affectionately known as “Tiki” by those closest to her. In 1980, she received her High School Diploma at Bethel High School, where she completed her academic success with Honors.

            In 1980, Karen enlisted in the United States Army Active-Duty Component, where she completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Karen later completed the Army Enlisted Military Occupational Specialties Training as a Quarter Master at Fort Dix, New Jersey, United States Army Training Installation. Karen’s duty assignment includes Fort Stewart, Georgia. Karen’s Army Achievements include but are not limited to the Army Service Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and Marksmanship Rifle Badge. Karen enlisted as a Private (E-1) and achieved the rank of Specialist (E-4) over her tenure on Active Duty.

            In November 1981, in Hinesville, Georgia, Karen married her High School Sweetheart Edward Watlington, Jr.  From their union was birthed their beautiful daughter Dawn Watlington and handsome son Christopher Watlington. After fulfilling her contractual obligation to the United States Army, Karen relocated to Newport News, Virginia, where she remarried her now lifetime partner and husband, Marcelluse Holland, in October 2010. From their union was birthed two beautiful daughters, Kayia Holland and Ayla Holland. 

            In 2010, she rededicated her life to Christ. Karen attended Six Mount Zion Baptist Church in Hampton, Virginia, under the leadership of the Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Jerome A. Barber. Karen also served as a Six Mount Zion Baptist Church Usher responsible for greeting and seating congregational members and visitors with a smile.

In 2018, Karen was selected amongst her peers to intern as a Social Science Major at the Thomas Nelson Community College, Hampton, Virginia Campus Work Study Program. On May 16, 2022, Karen graduated from Thomas Nelson Community College with an Associates of Applied Science Degree with a major in Administrative Support Technology and a specialization in Communications Management. Karen also graduated from Thomas Nelson Community College with Honors, receiving special recognition for achieving Magna Cum Laude with an accumulative Grade Point Average of 3.9. As a result of her academic performance, she was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

            She leaves to mourn: Her parents: Willie Wynn (Manley) and Leo Wynn. One Brother: Reginald Wynn (Antoinette, Jamaal, Justin, Julian). Her Husband: Marcelluse Holland. Her 4 Children: Dawn Watlington, Christopher Watlington, Kayia Holland, and Ayla Holland. 5 Grandchildren: Narayana Watlington, ReCharde Watlington, Eliana Holland, Ayden Beal, Ja’Mirah Jones, and a host of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended relatives, and friends.
