Kathie Anne Small slipped peacefully into eternity to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 12, 2026. Kathie Anne Small was born on May 14, 1970, in Bronx, New York, to Beatrice Small and Willie Leon Small. From babyhood through adulthood, Kathie was known for striking a pose and greeting every camera with her beautiful smile. With her love for the camera and effortless grace, Kathie also worked as a model, a role that beautifully matched her confidence and warm presence.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Willie Leon Small, Sr. and Beatrice R. Small; her brothers Willie L. Small, Jr., and Jerome Andrews. Her aunts: Mary E. Samuel, Isabell F. Rhodes, Barbara Anne Fletcher, and Katrina Foster. Two grandfather's: Batlener Small and Governor Rhodes. Three grandmother's: Bannie Anne Small, Elizabeth Small, Catherine Rhodes. Four great aunts: Hannah Fears, Mable Jackson, Margaret Oliver, Mary Collins. One cousin: Esther Dempsey and a host of other relatives.
Kathie Anne carried a calm, graceful spirit and had a way of bringing peace into every room she entered. She graduated from Lake Taylor Highschool in 1988. Kathie continued her education at Norfolk State University and later earned her Associate of Applied Science in Human Resource Management from Bryant & Stratton College in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where she studied from March 2007 to 2009. Kathie Anne truly adored meeting and connecting with people. She was always willing to lend a listening ear and a helping hand.
Kathie's wealth of knowledge and strong work ethic were evident in a diverse and accomplished career that spanned many fields. She served as Fundraising and Customer Service Support for the Virginia Opera in Norfolk from August 2002 to January 2004. From July 2002 to September 2006, she worked for the City of Virginia Beach as a Public Information Officer, followed by her role in Corporate Retail Support at Verizon Wireless from September 2006 to July 2010.
She continued her professional journey as a Sales Representative from March 2011 to August 2013 and as a Customer Care Representative III with World Travel Holdings from December 2010 to May 2014. From March 2013 to June 2015, she worked as an Owner Referral Agent at Gold Key Resorts. Kathie took a person sabbatical from July 2015 through August 2023. Kathie later served as a Virtual Customer Service Representative for Cruise from June 2022 to March 2023.
Kathie began working as a Virtual Receptionist with Ruby Receptionist beginning in June 2023. In addition, she worked as a Pre-Arrival Concierge for Hilton Grand Vacations from March 2023 to September 2023, followed by her role as Executive Assistant at National Right to Work from September 2023 to October 2024. Kathie concluded her career as a Customer Service Representative with Posh in August 2025, and faithfully served as an accountant for The Rock Church in 2025.
Kathie Anne was about her business every day, yet her greatest calling was her faith. Her illness never defeated the Jesus living within her. She served the Lord wholeheartedly—through her church, her family, her friends, and every person she encountered. Without a doubt, Kathie Anne Small was heaven-sent and touched every heart she met.
She is survived by younger sister Yolanda E. Small-Thomas with her husband Lawrence of Virginia. Sister in love, Paulette Fulton (Charles) of Texas. Four nephews and four nieces: Lawrence Leonard (Champ), Jaélin Jerome, Lyric Zhane, and Jeremiah Sean-Patrick Thomas; Jeronica Andrews, Woodrina King, Janet Lewis, and Develle Andrews. Two great nieces: Lilliana Jaylin Stanberry-Thomas(Linda Stanberry )and Genesis Marie McIntyre-Thomas ( Savannah McIntyre). Four uncles: James Fletcher, Andre B. Small (Natasha), of Chesapeake, VA. Hadley Evans Jr. (Sharon), and Steven Foster (Valerie). Two aunts: Diane Jackson and Winifred Bryant. Cousins: Theron D Rhodes (Edy) of Orlando FL; James Fletcher, Donnell Fletcher of Virginia Beach, VA. More cousins: Yvette Smith (Elijah), Sherry Dixon (Tony) and Angela Ferebee of Virginia Beach, VA; Trontoria Maisonet and children: Keliah Galbreath and Mikal Maisonet of New Bern, NC; Yanitza Rhodes of Fort Walton Beach, FL and Jazmine Rhodea of Orlando, FL; Pastor Jeremiah Lee (Florine) of Lawrenceville, NJ and Colline Staton. Bunny, Cookie, and Wilhelmina Dempsey of Bronx, NY...along with a host of relatives, friends, and colleagues whom mourn her loss. She will be deeply cherished by all (her family and friends). Rest peacefully, my princess sister. You'll always be with me.
