Katina was born in Norfolk, Virginia on May 14, 1973. She was raised in both Norfolk and Virginia Beach and attended their respective public-school systems – graduating from Salem High School in 1991. Upon graduation, she chose to become an NSU Spartan, proudly representing them her entire life. Katina had a high intellect that seemed to be from another world; receiving numerous scholarly accolades and achievements. She received her bachelor’s in criminal justice in 2005 from NSU; then her master’s in urban education from NSU in 2007. But she didn’t stop there, though! She received ANOTHER master’s from Southern University in professional mental health counseling in 2014. Katina held numerous jobs over the years to include Walmart, TruGreen Lawncare, and most recently, as an in-home counselor for Just Five. She loved all of her nieces and nephews as her own and included them in as many things as she could (specifically, her own birthday celebration). She loved a good house party, go-go music – and a party was not a party without some Mary J. Blige!
Katina was preceded in death by her father, Rev. John Haynes, Jr; her grandmother, Beulah Barnard Davis; and her mother-in-law, Sheilah Gilliam.
