Kenneth Rodney Stoakley, our beloved family member, departed this life on May 29, 2025. He was born on May 8, 1965, in Bayview, Virginia, to Alvin Stoakley and the late Juanita Coles Stoakley. Known affectionately as “Rodney” by family and friends, he left a significant mark on our hearts.
Rodney attended Northampton County Public Schools and proudly graduated from Northampton High School in 1984. He furthered his education at Eastern Shore Community College, where he earned his certification as a welder. In 1988, he relocated to Newport News, Virginia, and worked as a welder at various prominent industrial facilities, including Newport News Shipbuilding and Repair, Colonna’s Shipyard and Metro Machines Corporation in Norfolk, VA. In February 1990, he married his high school sweetheart, Carla Kellam Stoakley, and from this union, their daughter Syossea was born. Later in life, he retired due to disability.
Rodney was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He had a passion for music, frequently tuning into his favorite station, 95.7 R&B, where he enjoyed a mix of classic and contemporary R&B. A die-hard New York Giants fan, he loved watching sports and relishing good times with loved ones. His quirky and witty sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
Rodney was predeceased by his eldest sister, Adrienne Vannessa Sample. He is survived by his wife, Carla; his cherished daughter, Syossea (Ernest Dagran) of Norfolk, VA, and son Keenan Harvey; his siblings, Karen Renee of Norfolk, VA, Vingenetta of Trenton, NJ, Kevin, and Marquis from Eastern Shore, VA; three aunts, Barbara Brickhouse, June Staton (Raymond), and Alice Coles; four grandsons, Asaad, Zyiere, NaSiar, and CaSei; one great-granddaughter, Sadayia; and a loving host of nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends who will honor and cherish his memory.
