Kenneth “Kenny" Lee Wright, 72, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. Born in Salisbury, Maryland, on April 1, 1953, Kenny was surrounded by a large and loving family throughout his life.
A proud graduate of Washington High School in Princess Anne in 1971, Kenny immediately began his honorable and dedicated 28-year career in the U.S. Navy. A distinguished serviceman, he graduated from the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy in 1990 and was recognized with an array of medals and honors, including the Meritorious Service Medal and the Navy Commendation Medal. As a Master Chief Postal Clerk (E-9), Kenny managed postal operations for the largest naval fleet in the world. He retired from the Navy on November 1, 2001. Following his military service, he went on to work for the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority and Grounds Management for the 203rd Red Horse Squadron under the Virginia Air National Guard.
Kenny is survived by his loving wife, Robin Darlene Wright; his children, Kensey Wright, De'Shawn Wright, and Stephanie Sykes; his mother, Shirley Fagans; his brothers-in-law, Walter Banks (Norma) and John Banks; his stepsisters, Paulette Collins (Livingston), Deborah Terrell, Terri Maddox (Wayne), and Ella "Mena" Fisher; his stepbrothers, Kelvin Collins (Barbara), Kenneth Collins (Denise), and DeWayne Terrell (Mary); and his grandchildren, Maleah Sykes, Jaiden Griffith, Jordan Griffith, and Christian Sykes.
He was preceded in death by his father, LeRoy Wright; his in-laws, Bessie Banks and Robert Banks; his maternal grandparents, Elsie Armwood and Carl Bailey; his paternal grandparents, Annie and John Wright; his sister-in-law, Marion Banks; and his stepsister, Shirley Collins.
Funeral services will be held at Calvary Revival Church in Norfolk, Virginia, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society at https://support.nmcrs.org/a/homepage.
