Larry Ricky York, 65, passed away on August 28, 2025, in Norfolk, Virginia. Born on October 17, 1959, in Portsmouth, Virginia, Larry spent his life rooted in the communities of southeastern Virginia.
Larry was one of many siblings in a large and close-knit family. He was predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Louise York; sisters Eva Burton, Shirley Skaggs, Brenda Horan, Judy Troester, Agnus Grimes, and Linda York; and brothers William York, Junior York, Billy York, Gary York, and Lonnie York. Though many of his immediate family members have passed on before him, Larry remained deeply connected to the next generations. He is remembered with love by his 18 nieces and nephews, 30 great-nieces and nephews, and several great-great-nieces and nephews.
Throughout his life, Larry worked in the painting trade for residential homes alongside his brothers. His dedication to his craft and the time he spent working with family reflected both his strong work ethic and deep familial bonds.
Larry had a zest for life that was evident to all who knew him. He found joy in simple pleasures—fishing along the shorelines of Virginia, crabbing during warm summer days, dancing to his favorite songs with infectious energy, and spending cherished time with family. His thoughtful nature and caring spirit made him a beloved presence at every gathering. Whether offering a helping hand or sharing a laugh on the dance floor, Larry brought warmth wherever he went.
He also played an important role within his family as a caregiver to many of his siblings over the years. His devotion to those he loved was unwavering—a quiet testament to the depth of his character.
To those who knew him best—especially those who called him Uncle Larry—he will be remembered as fun-loving and full of heart. His memory will live on through countless shared stories and treasured moments.
We will miss you dearly and hold our memories close until we meet again. Rest easy. See you on the other side. A Graveside Service will be held on September 4, 2025, at 02:00 PM at Riverside Memorial 1000 E. Indian River Road
