Mother Lelia M. Woodbury of Norfolk, VA entered eternal rest on Thursday July 20, 2023, as she transitioned peacefully in her home. She was born June 16, 1928 to the late Joseph and Eva Simms, in King William County, Virginia. She was surrounded by love ones, and family. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Eva Simms, one sister, Carrie Quarles (James O.) two brothers, Joseph Simms Sr., (Alice) and Robert Lewis Simms, Sr., (Mamie I.) She graduated in 1947 from King William Training School. She was a devoted wife married to the late Bishop Elmo W. Woodbury, Sr. for 66 years and from that union they were blessed with six children. She leaves to cherish her memories four daughters: Rene Y. Potts (Daryl), Shelia R. Butler (Eric), Jacqueline Y. Woodbury and Lorraine Lett - Brown, two sons: Elmo W. Woodbury, Jr. (Margaret), Leon A. Woodbury, Sr. (Diana); One Sister- In Law, Mary Jackson, fourteen grand children, thirty great grand children, and four great-great grand children and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mother Woodbury was the matriarch of her family. She labored and toiled by her late husband's side Bishop E. W. Woodbury, Sr. in the ministry during those sixty six years together. Her life was one of impeccable service and sacrifice. She held a number of positions in the Assemblies of Yahweh Yahshua the Messiah during her years of service. She loved to sing and recite poems. She worked as a domestic engineer for years providing for her family and making sure that all of their needs were met. Her life as an assembly mother has touched the lives of so many people. Mother Woodbury loved to tarry with souls who were seeking the indwelling of Yahweh's Spirit. Many souls came to Yahshua through her encouraging dedication. She was a powerful prayer warrior and encourager. She would often say to brothers and sisters, "Baby when you feel like you can't hold on, just tie a knot and hang on in there anyway". Known for her delicious meals, Mother Woodbury made you feel at home at her dinner table and you left with a big smile on your face. She had a gift for growing some of the most beautiful plants you ever wanted to set your eyes on. She loved people and everyone that she met, you could feel that love. We were baruched (Blessed) to have her for 95 years.
