Leona Winfield Obituary

Remembrance

Leona Jones Winfield passed away on Wednesday, January 19,2022 knowing that she was dearly loved. She was born on October 28, 1941, in Halifax County, North Carolina, to the late Percy and Tempie Johnson Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius T. Winfield Sr., son, Gillian D. Winfield, siblings, Mamie Jones, Gloria Davis, Patsy Sawyer, Dennis Jones, McKinley Jones Sr., Percy Jones Jr., Roy Lee Jones Sr, and Thomas Jones. Leona has one last surviving sibling, Mrs. Jaddie Jones Williams (Norfolk).

Leona is survived by her children Julius Winfield Jr. (LA), Lawrence Winfield (TX), Yasmin Twine (Norfolk), Petronia Cistrunk (Spencer, IN), Reginald Jones (Amanda, Hurt, VA), Terrence Winfield (Betti, Norfolk), and Selwyn B. Winfield (Norfolk); a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Leona was educated in Norfolk Public Schools and later attended Norfolk State College. She was a devoted Jehovah’s Witness for 36 years, actively serving in the Villa Heights, Ingleside and Bay congregations in Norfolk, Virginia. Trained as a Certified Nursing Assistant, she provided over 20 years of compassionate personal care.

We would like to give special thanks to her large and supportive spiritual family of brothers and sisters and especially to Janice Pippins, Helen Coffey, Donna Brown, Eugene Jones, Arnold and James Head, John and Tish Robinson, and Pam Foreman.

Leona was a caring and generous person. Her hugs were wide and deep for all her family, friends, and friends of friend’s children. She was willing to care for the children at any time, day, or night. She would feed anybody and take you in without hesitation. If there was any way she could help, be it researching health concerns, matters relating to social service and social security protocols, or offering scriptural guidance, she would muster the strength to help, and enlist the help of whoever was needed to render aid. Her determination to be helpful to others was relentless.

A Repast will be held at United House of Prayer, located at 1206 Church St., Norfolk, Virginia, 23504 (757)-640-8454, immediately following the funeral service.
