Leonard Copeland Obituary

Leonard P. Copeland was born August 7, 1943 in Brooklyn, New York to Earnice Adams and James Copeland.  Early in his childhood he relocated to Washington, DC with his mother where he attended catholic schools.  It was here during the Vietnam War at the age of 17 he decided a future in the military is what he desired. He became an Armed Berar and was honorably discharged as a SGT E-5 in 1967.

He worked for General Services Administration Federal Protective Service for 30 years as a police officer and supervisor. After leaving the Federal Protective Service he worked for three years with Wackenhut Security Agency where he was a weapons instructor and computer analyst. He retired as an analyst and supervisor in 2010. He was a teacher of many and taught classes on firearms, motorcycles, and wrote books for the agency on instruction that are still in use today. Leonard enjoyed, marching, biking, riding motorcycles, jogging, swimming, scuba diving, singing, playing guitar, and playing the keyboard. Gradually his illness decreased his participation in all of these activities.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; Earnice and James Copeland, two brothers; Jimmy Copeland and Lawrence Copeland. He leaves to cherish his memory two sons; Patrick Copeland and James Copeland, one brother; Michael Copeland, one sister; Carolyn Copeland, two step-children; Wakina Lowell and Reggie Caldwell, eleven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, as well as host of relatives and friends. He embarked on a new journey to become closer to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit on March 17, 2011. May they be with him and give him peace. So many loved Leonard and he will be missed by all.

From your loving wife, Regina lovingly referred to as Sugar.
